Who Ordered the Construction of the Great Wall First?
The origin of the Great Wall's construction is a topic that has intrigued historians for centuries. The earliest sections of what would later become the Great Wall were built during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.
During this tumultuous era, various feudal states in China were constantly at war with each other. In order to defend their territories and protect their people from the incursions of neighboring states, rulers of these states began to construct defensive walls along their borders. For example, the state of Qi built walls to safeguard its northern frontier, while the state of Chu also erected similar fortifications in its border regions.
